Jupiter's Wake

After losing her best friend and the only life she has ever known, a habit-bound antiquarian bookseller sets out to track down the wild childhood friend she abandoned decades earlier, only to uncover a trail of strange lives, suspicious characters, and possible danger that reveals more about herself than the mystery she's trying to solve.

Madeline is a woman of systems. Twenty years in the same antiquarian bookshop in London, the same route home, the same Tuesday soup. Her world is small by design.

When her best friend and employer Arthur dies suddenly and the bookshop closes, everything collapses overnight. Then a mysterious letter arrives and reignites a question she’s spent years avoiding: What happened to Jupiter?

Jupiter was her childhood best friend. Bold, unpredictable, fearless in every way Madeline was not. They were inseparable until a falling out in their twenties. Jupiter vanished. Madeline told herself she was better off.

Now, armed with a dead man’s letter and a growing suspicion that Jupiter may be in danger, Madeline sets out across London, California, and beyond. The cast of characters she meets are all strange, all suspicious, and all holding a piece of a puzzle that doesn’t quite fit. The mystery she’s solving isn’t really about Jupiter. It’s about the life she stopped living.
